Sebastian Vettel is a German racing driver. Sebastian, Seb for friends and family, was born July 3, 1987 in Heppenheim, 60 kilometres from Frankfurt. He is the third son of Norbert, a carpenter, and Heike, a housewife. Sebastian’s passion for speed began with karts in 1995, when he was not yet 8 years old. In 2001, at the age of 14, he achieves his first successes by winning the European Junior Karting Championships. Triumphs came in succession in 2004 when he won the Formula BMW Championship with 18 victories from 20 races. Two years later, in 2006, Vettel made his debut in Formula 1 as a collaborator and third driver for BMW Sauber.
In 2007, Vettel became the youngest ever driver to score a point in Formula 1: this happened in the United States Grand Prix, when he competed replacing the injured Robert Kubica. A month later the Scuderia Toro Rosso offered him a place in its team in replacement of Scott Speed. In 2008 he set a new record. Aged 21 years and 73 days, he won his first Grand Prix at Monza, breaking the record set by Fernando Alonso. His passage to Red Bull Renault, that was announced in the second half of the year, was confirmed at the end of the season. In 2009 the final consecration: Vettel won four Grand Prix: China, Great Britain, Japan and United Arab Emirates. His first World Drivers’ Championship title came the next year: in 2010 he stole the title from Alonso in the last race of the season. The joy was double, cause Red Bull also won its first Constructors’ title.
In his favour, Vettel has speed and responsiveness. He controls the car and uses every bit of it through a sensitive and intelligent driving style. His performance allowed him to confirm his lead in 2011. This time the victory was absolute: 392 points, 15 pole positions and won 11 races. Sebastian Vettel won the world championship also in 2012 and 2013, with Red Bull: the world titles he won consecutively became four. In November 2014 his move to Ferrari for the 2015 season was announced. The first victory came in March 2015 in the Malaysian Grand Prix. Sebastian Vettel is considered one of the most talented and successful drivers in the Formula 1.
