Nerio Alessandri is an Italian designer and fitness entrepreneur. He’s the founder and president of Technogym, a world leader in fitness and wellness programs, two concepts Alessandri strongly promotes.
Nerio Alessandri was born in the town of Cesena in 1961. After studying industrial design, he decided to combine his passion for sports and the skills he aquired while studying to be a designer. He began building his own excersize equipment in his garage, and in 1983 at the age of 22 he founded Technogym. The company launched its first product line in 1985.
One of Alessandri’s objectives is to create an alternative to the American fitness market, which revolves around the idea of fitness and excercise as a pathway to physical beauty. Alessandri’s vision is a return to the Latin principle “mens sana in corpore sano”. Meaning a sound mind in a sound body. Alessandri considers this principle the true concept of wellness, resulting in the perfect balance between mind, body and spirit.
His work emphasizes the pursuit of Italian culture in its research, design and development, a goal that is evident in the aesthetic of his products and perceived not only as personal training solutions, but as real design objects.
In 2003, Alessandri gave life to the Wellness Foundation and presented his project, "Wellness Valley", the first district of global welfare. Romagna, the region where Alessandri had created his work since the beginning, became the place for the creation of a veritable ecosystem for quality of life.
The following year, in 2004, Business Week put Allesandri on its cover. In 2005, the Engineering Faculty at the University of Bologna awarded him with an honorary degree in Biomedical Engineering. Finally, on September 29th, 2012, Alessandri opened the Technogym Village in Cesena. It is the world’s first ever Wellness Campus.
The products designed by Technogym and Alessandri are used daily by more than 35 million people in more than one hundred countries in the world.
Since the company’s inception it has always been active in the sports world; partnering with major sports clubs such as AC Milan, Inter, Juventus, Real Madrid, Chelsea, the Ferrari team in Formula 1 and Teams Oracle and Prada in sailing. Technogym has been the official training center supplier in six Olympic Games: Sydney 2000, Athens 2004, Torino 2006, Beijing 2008, London 2012 and Rio 2016.
Since the early years of his career, Nerio Alessandri built his vision of modern man around four key directives: health, technology, design and sports.
Today, thanks to his creation of a Wellness Economy, which seeks to emphasize the economic impact of an individual’s balanced lifestyle, Alessandri is recognized as one of the most active entrepreneurs in the world of corporate social responsibility.
